Lismore Thistles ended the inaugural Football Far North Coast Premier League season with a resounding win at semi-finalists Bangalow on Friday night.
Souths win Minor Premiership for first time in 27 years
Four players, who had never played First Grade before the season began, started for Thistles against the Bluedogs - Wyley Drew, James Fennamore, Reece Summers and Joel Worgan. Eamonn Wilde also returned to the club after being part of the Liverpool Academy and Callum Sivewright also became a regular.
"It was a very good night," said Thistles' coach Nick Winkler-Maloney.
"We spoke in the changing rooms that it would be good to go out on a high and get a win.
"We were having some fun, moving some positions around, and that also freed the boys up.
"They played extremely well."
Thistles won 3-1 with goals from Fennamore, Sivewright and Jye Wilson.
It was Thistles' third win in four matches but the side suffered from four successive losses at the start of the season.
"The future does look promising if we can keep the majority of our squad together," said Winkler-Maloney.
"Hopefully it's a full season next year and we can start a lot better than we did this year and not have to rely on other results like we did this year."
Winkler-Maloney, who took over the First Grade coaching role at the start of the season, said he will not be continuing in the role next season.
