The Salvation Army Op Shop on Carrington Street will re-open its doors this morning at 10am following major renovations over the past four weeks.

The Salvos rented the shop next door when it became available earlier this year to expand their range of items. A doorway to link the two stores was on top of the priority list as was creating service desks and other fittings in the 120 square metre space.

Pastor Phil Sutcliffe said "The renovations have allowed us to double the size of each of our departments. This allows for a greater flow of donated stock out onto the Shop floor for the customers to purchase."

"Previously we struggled with displaying things properly due to limitations in the size of the shop. This has greatly improved with the new layout."

It is difficult not to be impressed by the size of the upgraded store as soon as you walk in the door.

"Every section has been restocked and expanded. We have increased the size of every dept in our store, and we have a huge range," Phil added.

"We have a large range of Clothing for Ladies, Men and Kids, Shoes, Luggage & Accessories, Manchester, Electrical, Furniture, Bric-a-Brac (homewares) and Books.

"We also have completely reworked our back areas for sorting of donations which allows a much better working environment for our volunteers."

The Eggins Lane roadworks that were to have started in February have been delayed due to the amount of rain but they are back on the agenda this week.

"We want to say a huge thanks to all our volunteers who have put in incredible amounts of hours over the last month, to allow us to re-open on the 1st March, and we can’t wait to welcome Customers back into our store," Phil concluded.

You will find the Salvation Army Op Shop on the northern end of Carrington Street just down from Café Cappello.
