The NSW SES will be conducting a Lismore business doorknock starting tomorrow (Wednesday) in the CBD.
The aim of the doorknock is to provide updated Flood Safe information packs to each business to help prepare for any future flood events.
They will start in the CBD tomorrow and then visit North, South and East Lismore over the next few weeks.
Flood Safe packs give businesses and their staff the essential information they need to stay safe before, during and after flood events.
The packs will also include important updated information about the history of floods in Lismore and what actually happens during a flood.
The NSW SES will also be promoting a follow-up Business Community Meeting at the Lismore Unit headquarters at 61 Brunswick Street, Lismore on Thursday 9th November at 5:30pm.
“It is important that people in Lismore who may be affected by flooding be weather aware and flood aware,” said NSW SES Community Capability Officer Janet Pettit.
“It’s important to develop a flood plan and to know your triggers of when to act. The NSW SES can help you develop your business flood plan”, she said.
Lismore is one of the most flood-prone urban centres in Australia. Since 1850 there have been approximately 155 flood events, ranging from low-level nuisance rises to high-level, very disruptive and destructive events.
It is essential that residents and businesses have an emergency plan that is designed to allow stock and belongings to be raised or relocated and to evacuate in time if required. Remaining in your home/business when it is flood affected can be dangerous.
For emergency help in floods and storms, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In life threatening situations, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
