The last time a Marist Brothers Junior Rugby League team graced the field was 597 days ago, on Grand Final Day in 2019 where the Girls League Tag won the Group One Grand Final.
Now, after missing the 2020 season the club is ready to play again, against Grafton Ghosts at home at St John's College Woodlawn on Saturday.
Despite electing not to enter the Group One competition last year, the club has excellent player numbers across all grades from Under 6’s to Under 14’s, including Girls League Tag. They are however still struggling to get players committed in the Under 15’s & 16’s age group.
“We have a very committed bunch of Under 16’s who have been training hard all pre-season and are ready to go, they just need a few more numbers to complete the squad” said junior Vice President Ben Grace. “We have some Under 15’s who are willing to back up to make up the numbers but we know they won’t always be available.”
The club urges any potential players eligible to play in Under 15’s or 16’s to get in contact with the club immediately, and come along to training on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30pm at Woodlawn. Under 15’s are coached by Brody Lisha, who has a lot of coaching experience at both club and representative level, whilst Under 16’s are coached by Chris King, who most would know from his many years playing for Marist Brothers Rams.
