LinFox to take over Hernes Freight in Lismore

Lismore's iconic transport company, Hernes Freight, will be passing the batton to Linfox Freight after 47 years behind the wheel.

Hernes Freight has been an institution with their headquarters in South Lismore, employing around 150 locals.

In an emotional farewell Bianca Herne posted on social media that it is with great sadness that today (1 July) marks the end of an era.

"As many of you are aware, Herne's Freight Service ceased trading today.

"After two generations of Herne's running the family company it is time to say good-bye.

"On behalf of Stuart and his family we thank everyone for their support," she said.

Sources told the Lismore App that freighting was a tough business.

As an inland freight operator, not on the M1 or major routes it's hard to compete.

Herne's will change hands to Linfox Freight and while Herne's has kept all their staff on their current contracts some feel that down the line this will inevitably change.

The Lismore App reached out to Linfox Freight yet they refused to comment on the buy-out.

Nathan Herne said his Dad has worked long enough and just wants to retire.

"Coming in 24/7 for years Dad wanted to retire ... he sold onto another company to keep everyone a job.

"It was probably the best way to get out though it happened quicker than we thought."
