Local SES crews respond to flood and storm calls

With a second floodwatch already issued by the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) for possible flooding, SES spokeswoman Amanda Allen said the SES was already responding to calls from residents in the Lismore area.

“We have already responded to four jobs today, about an hour apart for flood and storm damage on different properties,” she said.

“Our crews are out there sandbagging at one property, knee deep in water. There’s also calls for storm damaged leaking roofs.”

Ms Allen said some of the most highly trained technicians in the SES were on standby for the area they expect to be hardest hit, including Lismore.

“There’s about 75-150mm of rain expected today and tomorrow,” she said.

“There is an incident control centre established in Lismore area and additional resources are being pre-positioned – including support from NSW Police and the Rural Fire Service if extra help is needed.

“It’s difficult to predict what will happen, but we act on the best possible guesses we can make with the information we have.”

“We really want to emphasise the message of preparedness to people.

“Be aware to never drive through floodwater - 10cm of water can flood a car and keep children clear of storm water drains.”

If you require assistance, call the SES emergency help line on 132500.
