The SCU Gold Rats have again struggled in their move to the FNC Rugby Union First Grade Competition.

The Gold Rats took on Evans River in a catch up game mid week, which was to be played in Round 2, but was postponed due to wet weather and ground closures.

The Gold Rats have struggled in recent weeks, and this was again the case on Wednesday night.

The Killer Whales jumped to a 35-0 lead by halftime and doubled it in the second half, finishing the match 70-7.

The lone try scorer for the University side was Xavier Salapo, who has been a shining light this season.

The Rats will regroup this weekend and look to turn their season around with a bye this weekend across the competition.

The FNC Representative teams have travelled to Tamworth for the NSW Country Championships.

The Senior Men's side will play Central Coast and Mid North Coast for a chance to make it through to the finals and a shot at either the Caldwell Cup or the Richardson Shield.

The Senior Women's side have been placed in a pool with Hunter, Central Coast and Mid North Coast, with matches starting from 8am on Saturday and Finals from 8am on Sunday.

A number of junior sides have also travelled south for the NSW Junior State Championships, with several being met with rain soaked grounds after torrential rain in Sydney and surrounds for the last few days.
