Empowering Women: NORWACS' offering affordable Counselling Services in the Northern Rivers

Are you a local woman going through a challenging time and seeking emotional support?

NORWACS (Northern Rivers Women & Children's Services Inc.) is a local charity. Their mission is to support diverse women and their children in the Northern Rivers community to be well, safe, strong, and empowered to thrive.

They offer affordable and accessible professional counselling services to local women in need. Their services are available on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday weekly.

At the heart of NORWACS' mission is the belief that all women, regardless of their background, identity, or life experiences, deserve access to high-quality health and wellbeing services.

NORWACS’ staff understand that being a woman encompasses a wide spectrum of experiences and extend their services to all those who identify as women. NORWACS’ counselling services may be accessed by girls as young as fourteen who are attending with a support person, or independently from sixteen years old.

NORWACS counselling services address a wide array of concerns. Whether grappling with anxiety, depression, or managing the aftermath of traumatic experiences, NORWACS' counsellors are equipped to guide women towards healing.

NORWACS specialises in helping survivors of domestic and family violence and sexual assault, providing a safe and nurturing environment for recovery.

NORWACS counsellors are experienced in addressing issues related to relationships and parenting, assisting individuals in navigating separation and divorce. They also provide essential support for those dealing with eating disorders, grief and loss as well as support for those struggling with drug and alcohol issues.

Stress management and overall wellbeing are also at the forefront of their services, ensuring that women in the community have access to tools to enhance their mental and emotional health.

NORWACS runs regular free ‘Nourish Northern Rivers’ Nutrition and Wellbeing workshops across the region. Through these workshops, participants are taught to prepare two different recipes using pantry staples, how to put together a kit box of essential food supplies for emergencies and are guided through mindfulness and physical exercise to reduce stress. Attendees are provided with a light lunch.

For information, contact nerida.colley@norwacs.org.au or phone 02 6621 9800.

The high demand for these sessions indicates the importance and need for such services in the local community. Through their services, NORWACS’ dedication to inclusivity, professionalism, and a holistic approach to wellbeing makes them an indispensable support in the Northern Rivers community.

To continue expanding their invaluable work, NORWACS invites donations, which can be made via their website at https://norwacs.org.au/donations/.
