Brothers bring back three more talented juniors

Marist Brothers Rams rebuilding for the 2020 season keeps gathering pace with another three former Marist Brothers Rams Juniors rejoining the club.

Lennon Bartlett, who joined Marist Brothers Juniors in 1996 and played at least five seasons of First Grade until 2016, is returning from London in the UK where he has been playing with the Hammersmith Hills Hoists Rugby League Club. Bartlett helped the amateur side win the Southern Conference League for two successive seasons 2017 and 2018. Bartlett was named 'best back' by the club at their end of season awards in November 2018.

"Lennon Bartlett is a legend of Marist Brothers," said Brothers' new assistant coach Mark Sivewright. "His dad Steve played for Easts in Sydney then played for Marist Brothers for years."

"Lennon is a great character to have around the club - a very good communicator, great energy and always has a smile on his face," said Sivewright.

"He's very versatile and can play lock, second row and centre. Defence is his strong point.

"(New Marist Brothers Rams coach) Danny (Lee) and I are very fortunate to have him back in the blue and gold."

Lennon Bartlett is returning to the club after three years overseas where he played for one of the UK's great amateur sides..

"Brothers have been my club since I was five years old and dad won a few comps here back in the day so I was always going to come back," Bartlett said.

"I'm a plumber and was just doing that whilst playing footy for the Hammersmith Hills Hoists. I watched all the Brothers' games on the live stream and have been that keen to get back here playing, especially with all these younger blokes and the self crowned king (Mitchell Krause) all coming back to the club. I can't wait to rip in this season and helping get Brothers back to where it use to be.

"I have to credit to Sivey and Danny for their recruitment drive this off season. They're bringing back a culture within the club and building something special here."

Brothers today formally announced it had signed 20-year-old Dane Pratt and his younger brother Simon, both former Marist Brothers Junior Rugby League players.

"Dane's a dynamic hooker/halfback, in that Damian Cook style, and Simon is a second rower/lock. He is great on his feet in traffic, can play the ball or punch the line. His defence is second to none and he’s still 16 years of age," said Sivewright.

Dane Pratt, who is studying at Australian Catholic University in Brisbane, has been playing for Redcliffe Dolphins in the Hastings Deering Cup for the past two seasons, while younger brother Simon is in Year 11 at St John's College, Woodlawn.

"Danny and Mark contacted Dane and myself and organised a time to catch up and talk about the year ahead for the Rams and they spoke about how they would love to have Dane and I back at the club," Simon Pratt said.

"I am turning 17 in December. I take pride in my training and work hard in the gym so that I am able to handle the big boys! My hopes for this season is to have fun and have a successful year with my brother and my mates at the Rams! I’m really keen to be able to play alongside Dane."

Sivewright said that it was no coincidence that Mitchell Krause, Aidan and Lachlan Kennedy, Isaac Lee and Dane and Simon Pratt were all from St John's College, Woodlawn as the coach at the school is former Marist Brothers Rams' First Grade player Simon Andrews.

"A lot of credit should go to Simon. Not only are those guys great players, they are also great blokes," said Sivewright.
