Boil Water Alert lifted for Nimbin

The Boil Water Alert for the village of Nimbin has been lifted, effective immediately.

On Friday, 30 September, the village of Nimbin was placed under Boil Water Alert.

This was because high turbidity levels were detected in the village’s water supply, meaning that Lismore City Council could not guarantee the safety of Nimbin’s drinking water.

Council has completed engineering and system improvements, including the installation of additional disinfection equipment to provide improved treatment processes.

As a result, Council has increased 24/7 monitoring of water quality, and assessed adequate treatment and disinfection is now occurring.

The improvements have been undertaken in consultation with NSW Health and NSW Department of Planning and Environment. Both organisations have supported Council lifting of the Boil Water Alert for the village of Nimbin.

Lismore City Council wishes to emphasise that this does not change the current Boil Water Alert for our Nimbin Rural customers as turbidity in the section of the supply network where rural customers are connected remains at elevated levels.

Disinfection cannot be deemed adequate in this part of the supply, and as such we are unable to lift the Rural Boil Water Alert at this time.

Lismore City Council reminds all Nimbin village customers that Level 3 water restrictions remain in place at this time and will continue until the D. E. Williams Dam has been filled back to a secure level.
