The parents of Georgia Rhodes have expressed their utmost gratitude to all those who contributed to the FU to the Big C fundraiser today at the Lismore Workers Golf Club.

Money raised from the 144-player charity golf day - which included an auction and raffle - will go towards the family’s expenses as Georgia battles a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

The 16-year-old is currently still in hospital in Brisbane with a compromised immune system after receiving a bone marrow transplant from her big brother Nicholas. 

Georgia’s father Adam Rhodes - a multiple past club champion - said he was amazed how quickly his close friends including club president Tim Gilmore, Dave Mackie, Pete Warren and club pro Pete Jaeger had brought the event together.

"When everyone comes together like this it's very surprising and humbling,” Mr Rhodes said.

"The only way it could have been better was if Georgia could have been here to see it. 

"That's why I wanted the photos taken today, so she could see the support that she's getting because she's so alone up there at the moment with her mum, doing the best they can.”

Georgia’s mother Kylie Bennett posted a heartfelt thankyou to the Facebook page where the family is documenting Georgia’s battle.

"To all of the people playing, to all of those who sponsored a hole, donated a prize, sold a raffle ticket etc you have our sincerest gratitude,” Kylie wrote. 

"We are extremely humbled by the response to the event and forever grateful to live in such a wonderful community full of kind and caring people. 

"There simply aren’t enough words. 

"It’s hard to describe the impact such kindness has on our psyche - this certainly isn’t easy and we have a long way to go but the love and support from back home is palpable and so very helpful. So thank you all.”

Among those teeing off were Jason Durheim, Troy Morton, Danny Morton and Troy McRae.

Mr Durheim said they were mates of Mr Rhodes and came along to raise some money for a good cause.

"We like our golf and it’s a good way to support them,” he said.

Mr Rhodes said Georgia didn’t usually like to be in the spotlight and had been blown away by the community support.

"When I tell her the amount of people that are coming together, she's just as amazed as I am,” he said.

"She plays a big part in a lot of people's lives. She's been big in sport since a very early age, loves her soccer, misses all of her friends, misses her best friend Shari. 

"So it's been a very trying six months so far and she's got a long road ahead of her.”

"Georgia's a fighter though - nothing's going to keep her down,” he added. "She's just amazing.”
