Lismore Workers Baseball's extremely talented teenage player Lachlan Coe has been selected in the Baseball NSW squad to take part in the 2020 Youth Baseball Nationals in Reno, Nevada, in the US in June next year.
Lachlan, who was 14 earlier this month, and his dad Rohan and mother Deidre drove from Lismore to Sydney to take part in the trials at Blacktown Sport Park, Sydney, last night.
"They went through all the regular stuff - fielding, batting and pitching and we found out about 3:15 today via email that he is in the squad," said Deidre Coe.
"Lachlan is over the moon and so excited. We all are. The standard of players was fantastic."
Last month Lachlan Coe played in an Under 18s Blue Blaze tournament at Blacktown. He has also represented NSW Country.
"His selection is a reward for his commitment," said his mum.
Lachlan, a student at Trinity Catholic College, Lismore, was judged Player of the Year in Baseball Far North Coast FNC last season, awarded the Baxter Medal, and helping Lismore Workers to victory in the Grand Final.
His baseball coaches are Darren McMahon, Jason Bromell, Bill McLaren and Geoff Baxter.
Deidre Coe praised her cousin and his wife, who put them at short notice, in Sydney every time Lachlan has to trial or play at Blacktown Sports Park..
"They are amazing," she said.
Lachlan is also a talented softball player and he was selected for the Australia Under 15s in February, He plays for Casino and Ballina in the Far North Coast Softball Association.
