Olivia Osborne made her debut for and farewell to Goonellabah Workers Sports Cricket Club in the Northern Rivers Cricket League's First Grade competition against Northern

Districts last Saturday.

Osborne, a fast bowler, bowled the second over after Northern Districts were put into bat. She was joined by her brother Sam and even her dad Adam was on the field for the first 20 overs.

"It was an unreal experience with my brother and dad being out there with me. It was pretty amazing and I was the fourth generation of Osbornes to play First Grade for Goonellabah Workers," said Olivia, who represented Coffs Chargers, who reached the final of NSW Women's Regional Bash at North Sydney Oval yesterday.

"I was nervous at the start and kept telling myself 'it is just another game of cricket."

The 18-year-old, who is heading off to study at the University of Armidale, took the prized scalp of Northern Districts' batsman Ryan Duyker, the only player to hit two centuries in First Grade this season so far.

Duyker had hit 27 runs from 26 balls when Oliva clean bowled him.

"It was a bit of relief to be honest as he was hitting the ball hard. It was only later that I was told who it was and it is an amazing feeling to be able to say that I got one of the better batsmen out."

Goonellabah Workers Sport Cricket Club President Alec Watson said that Olivia Osborne had been deserving an opportunity in First Grade for some time.

"Olivia bowled the second over and bowled well from the start. She had good control and was unlucky not get a wicket early with a drop catch. Then a few more outside edges going over gully. She bowled well in the first spell and then the second she bowled tight and didn’t give away any freebies and that’s how she got her first wicket," Watson said.

"She didn’t look out of place playing First Grade that’s for sure. She will definitely continue to trouble batsman no matter who she is playing against and will continue to keep on getting better and better."

Northern Districts' captain Gary Rossington restored himself to opening the innings and responded with 48 runs, which turned out to be the highest score in the match. Norths, who had lost three matches in succession, reached 147/8 off the mandatory 40 overs. Goonellabah Workers Sports used nine bowlers. Olivia's older brother Sam took Rossington's wicket.

Goonellabah Workers never got going against the pace of Norths' pace bowlers Jason Castle, Kade Rankin and Dan Rossington and were bowled out for 84 in the 30th over - the second time in three matches they have been bowled out for below 85.

Norths' Castle took 3/14 off eight overs; with Rankin and the medium pace of Anthony Armstrong taking two wickets apiece.
