A GoFundMe appeal for $10,000 has been set up on behalf of the family of 17-year-old Jaylan Stewart, who was killed when the BMW he was driving left Ellangowan Road, east of Summerland Way, Casino, and hit a tree just before 3pm last Saturday.
Stewart was named to come off the bench for the Marist Brothers Rams Under-18s 24 hours later in a match against Ballina that had to be cancelled. The Rams and the Seagulls held a minute's silence for Jay before the First Grade match. Jaylan's Facebook friend was Eddie Allen, who also played for the Rams Under-18s. They also were part of Lismore Rugby Club's tour to Fiji. Eddie died when the Nissan Pulsar he was driving north along Barham Street, East Lismore, crashed into a tree on September 14.

Jaylan Stewart was on a rugby scholarship to Ipswich Grammar School in Queensland.
The GoFundMe for Jaylan's family was set up by Michelle Wignall.
"Thank you for supporting Michael, Kirsty and Keisha Stewart through the tragic loss of their son and brother Jaylan," wrote Wignell.
"The messages, flowers and visitors have been overwhelming and the family are so grateful for your support.
"In lieu of flowers, cakes and other amazing food we ask you to donate what you can to help this family through the coming months."
Stewart was on a rugby scholarship at Ipswich Grammar School in Queensland and had been a pupil at St John's College, Woodlawn.
"Jaylan will be remembered as the cheeky gentle giant. A mate to everyone," Lismore Rugby Union Club said on Facebook. "He was an exceptional young man," said the Casino Bulls.
The GoFundMe has been set at $10,000 and $3,575 has been raised in 24 hours.
