Eleven players from Far North Coast Hockey are representing NSW across several age categories in the Hockey Australia Masters National Women’s Championships at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre in in Labrador.
NSW has seven teams competing from Over 35s through to Overs 65s and the tournament started on Thursday and finishes on Saturday, 5 October, 2019.
Tracey Makings, who plays for Northern Star, is playing for NSW in the Over 45s, while her mum Gloria McPherson, who playing in the Over 65s.
"The highlight so far is the performance of the NSW O45s Women’s Masters team, which has dominated in the three matches played to date," said FNC Hockey's Helen Rankin Jarvie.
NSW Over 45 representative side at Hockey Australia Masters National Women’s Championships is unbeaten after three matches.
"Lismore local Tracey Makings scored a field goal in the O45s 8-0 win v ACT on Thursday, and another field goal in the tightly contested 2-1 win over WA on Friday. The NSW O45s beat Victoria 3-0 on Saturday and has as a bye today, before taking on second placed Queensland in the ‘State of Origin’ match on Monday.
"With five teams in this competition (NSW, QLD, VIC, WA, ACT), every team will play each other twice and first past the post will take home the gold medal."
All NSW teams in the other age divisions have had mixed results to date, with local FNC player Sam Peiti picking up two goals (Field Goal, Penalty Corner) in her NSW O40s team’s 3-0 win over Victoria on Saturday.
"There are six more days of competition, so all teams are still in medal contention. Gold medal matches will be played on Saturday," said Rankin Jarvie.
The Far North Coast players are:
O35s: Renee Dunstan (Glee)
