The future of Silly Sollys is looking brighter as the mud is wiped away from the shop’s fittings.
The large discount shop was another victim of the Lismore’s February mega-flood – but with a new franchise manager taking over the lease, the shop is set to open again in August.
Daniel Soca is taking over the helm of the popular shop, which sells discount items all priced at $5 and under.
But cleaning is a hard slog and Daniel is looking for people who can come and lend a hand cleaning fittings and walls in time for the shop to reopen next month.
Daniel is moving to Lismore from the Gold Coast and has spent 12 years in the discount retail business working with Global Brand Outlets. So he is tech-savvy and knows about ordering from supply chain outlets.
He said he is open to advice from locals about how to do things differently in a town with a tendency to flood.
“Lismore and its country town feel will be great for me,” Daniel said.
“The February flood has changed how we plan – it could be a one in ten year occurrence now,” he said.
"And knowing that we could get a lesser flood at least once a year means I need to create a plan to access an upstairs storage area.
“I’m also going to make the shop fittings more flood-friendly so I can shift things around if it happens again.
“Let’s hope not, but we need systems that are more mobile and quicker off the rank to get happening... and as we need 24 or 48-hour notice of such a disaster happening.
“It’s a big shop and I’m open to listening to any advice on logistics at the moment – including what kinds of products people want to see in the shop."
The new Silly Sollys will have more of your favourite product lines – including a large selection of toys, cleaning products and clothing.
There will even be a freezer this time with space for frozen foods.
Former staff member Renai is already back in the shop helping out and said she is excited the shop is reopening.
"I've had so many people asking about it and they are so happy we are coming back," she said.
Daniel is also looking for staff to work in the new shop when it opens – as well as people to help clean it now.
