The countdown is on as 2023 Elders Love Lismore Show is launchedMayor of Lismore Steve Krieg, Elders Rural Agronomist Haman Coulter, Elders Rural Branch Manager Mat Duley, North Coast National A&I Society President John Gibson, 2022 Young Woman Tara Coles and Lismore City Council Jon Gibbons a today's launch

The 2022 Lismore Show broke attendance records as approximately 35,000 streamed through the Lismore Showground gates to enjoy the three-day annual event.

North Coast National A&I Society President John Gibson said he would be happy with 30,000 people this year at today's launch of the 2023 Show while welcoming a new naming sponsor, Elders.

"The show has been the heart of our community since 1885," Mr Gibson told media, "And this year, Elders has come on board as our naming rights sponsor for the next three years."

"I invite everyone to come along and catch up with old friends and make new ones. The show is where memories are made, and it's not long until October."

The 2023 Elders Love Lismore Show will be held on Thursday, October 19, Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 22, at the Lismore Showground in North Lismore.

Due to last year's devastating floods, the gate for the 2022 Lismore Show was open, so everyone could attend for free. This year a gate ticket will return with the cost to be determined at the next North Coast National A&I Society committee meeting.

"We'd like to be able to do that (offer a free gate), it's just we can't afford to do that. We've got to pay a few bills," Mr Gibson said.

As for what is in store for the 2023 Elders Love Lismore Show, Mr Gibson listed some of the attractions:

  • Ashton Circus
  • Mayhem Monster Trucks performing each day
  • FMX Bikes
  • Petting Zoo
  • Lego Competition for schools
  • Reptiles
  • Steer competition
  • Jetpacks
  • Community Stage with a range of local acts
  • Hurford Woodchop featuring three State Championships
  • Fireworks

Mr Gibson said this year's Hurford Woodchop is the first time that three State Championships will be held at the Lismore Show, another coup for Lismore.

Mr Gibson also launched the 2023 North Coast National Young Women and Teen Showgirl Competition.

Last year's winner, Tara Coles, represented the North Coast zone at the Royal Sydney Easter Show, winning the inaugural Show Announcers Academy Scholarship.

Tara said during the last 12 months, she was able to connect with many local businesses and agricultural industries to learn more about her community.

"For me, personally, being able to go on to Sydney and represent Lismore was great. I got to talk to quite a lot of high-level people about how we're still recovering here as well and what it takes for shows. It's been really great. Going out and doing the announcer's scholarship has been wonderful as well. It's all just been a big learning curve for me and been really exciting, and that's why I'm very passionate about the competition. I want to promote it more to other young women in the area to get involved."

Tara gave some advice for those considering registering for the 2023 Young Women and Teen Showgirl Competition

"You're always nervous to do it, but I think it's really important to have a chat to people that have been through the competition to learn what it is about. I think the nerves are around what is it? Do I need to know agriculture? Do I need to be a professional public speaker to be able to do this? You don't. It's the skills that I've learnt to do that over the past year and continue to do so. So, I encourage people to talk to previous participants to be able to find out what it truly is about and how to get involved."

Registrations for the 2023 North Coast National Young Woman and Teenage Showgirl Competitions are available through the Facebook Page.
