NSW SES Flood Update: South Lismore, CBD and School closure

The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) NOT TO ENTER FLOODWATER due to current dangerous flash flooding occurring in areas of the CBD:

  • Lismore CBD Basin

You should monitor the situation as it is constantly changing. Avoid floodwater for your safety.

This event may change quickly. We will monitor the situation and update our warnings if the situation changes.

The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to PREPARE TO EVACUATE due to predicted rising floodwaters causing major flooding:

  • Streets located south of Leycester Creek and north of Hollingsworth Street including;

  • Meadow Drive and surrounds

  • Streets between Wilson Street and Ostrom Street Streets between Casino Street and Newbridge Street

  • Union Street, Ballina Road, Folyes Road, Taylors Street, Norco Lane, Franks Street

You should monitor the situation and prepare to evacuate so that you can safely evacuate when instructed to do so by NSW SES. Wherever possible, you should prepare to stay with family or friends, or make other accommodation arrangements.

If you are unable to find accommodation, Evacuation centres have been set up at:

  • Southern Cross University (P Block), Military Road, East Lismore NSW 2480

Evacuation centres have plans to manage the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Do not hesitate to go to an evacuation centre if you have no safe, alternative accommodation.

If you remain in the area, you may become trapped without power, water, and other essential services. It may be too dangerous for NSW SES to rescue you.

What you need to do:

If you have a Home and/or Business Emergency Plan, review it now. Otherwise, have a conversation and plan for what you will do and take with you if you need to evacuate. Consider the consequences of road and bridge closures and water over roads and make alternate arrangements for work, children, and travel.

Plan your route carefully to avoid flooded roads and allow extra travel time. Obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services. Avoid storm drains and pipes, ditches, ravines and rivers.

Never drive, walk, ride through, play or swim in floodwater-it is dangerous, toxic, and may void your car insurance. If it's flooded, forget it. Fines apply.

Share this information with family, friends, and neighbours and help others prepare where possible.

School Closures

As reported earlier, St John's College Woodlawn is closed tomorrow.

Trinity Catholic College has made a decision to operate the College with minimal supervision for students tomorrow. This means normal classes will not run tomorrow due to a number of factors including interrupted bus services and the inability of some staff to access our SCU campus tomorrow.
