Keerong Road suffered multiple damages following the February 28 natural disaster with bridges washed away, landslips and sealed pavement destroyed from the Nimbin Road end to The Channon end in the north.
Lismore City Council crews are currently working along Keerrong Road to restore damaged sections of the road, including installing this new bridge, among other roads and potholes in the community.
This particular section (in the photo below) is located north of the intersection with Dudgeon Road which is under repair due to a collapsed culvert.
Council is replacing the damaged culvert with a new concrete bridge.
After completing the first stage of construction by installing the bridge pilings, on Monday LCC road crews installed the concrete bridge section which is 7.2m wide and 16.1m long.
A large crane lifted the large concrete sections in place, which was then firmly secured by our bridge teams.
Work is expected to be completed by 31 August, depending on the weather.
Geotechnical investigations and design are underway into the large landslide located near The Channon Road end to determine full restoration treatments.
Works will be undertaken to repair the sealed pavement section approximately 1-3km from Nimbin Road, improving access for road users. These works are temporary as Council is currently seeking funding for the repair and full restoration cannot be completed with current weather conditions.
