More burned out cars appear around Lismore

More burned out cars have been found in outlying areas of Lismore – this time on the road towards Bentley and Kyogle.

Following the Lismore App story, earlier this week about a suspected arsonist who may have set fire to a car in Goonellabah, a Lismore App reader has sent in photos of more burned-out cars. Read more: Does Goonellabah have an arsonist?

Bentley resident Michael Shapter said he noticed two freshly burned cars on his drive to and from Lismore this week.

“I noticed there was a burnt vehicle near the Blakebrook turnoff on the Bentley Road and another at Naughton’s Gap - both having been burned in the last few days,” Michael said.

“The one on the Bentley side of the hill at Tuncester had been there for weeks, but wasn’t burned and had police tape around it – so it was known to police.

“Over time, it gradually got smashed up and then was recently burned out.

“We do get cars dumped beside the road there occasionally – so maybe it was stolen

“The other one at Naughton’s Gap appeared out of the blue. Both the cars were burned in a similar time frame to the reports of the Goonellabah incident.

“I guess the question is, was the car stolen and ran out of petrol and was dumped there – or is someone deliberately going around burning cars for the fun of it?”

The Lismore App has contacted Richmond District Police about the burned cars to find out if police have any more information on the cars and their investigations into what happened.
