Larnook Public School will celebrate its centenary next weekend, marking 100 years of local education in the small village.
Lessons commenced on the 6th of June 1922, but due to the flood, it wasn’t able to hold the event in 2022.
Celebrations will be held on Saturday, June 10 from 10am to 2pm – with food, coffee and memorabilia available.
Larnook Public School Principal, Megan O'Meara said anybody who has any connection with the school is welcome to attend.
“It's been really interesting, because I am newly appointed here… so the process for has been fantastic, because it's given me an opportunity to learn so much about the history of the school,” she said.
“[It] probably would have taken years and years to actually pick up, if not for the fact that we were having a centenary.”

“The committee is full of people involved in the school… we've got two or three parents from a few years back, and we've also got a principal Steven Clough, who was here for many, many years.”
“It’s also full of past students, past staff, and parents… so that's giving everyone a big opportunity to come back and have the opportunity to celebrate the school.

“One gentleman who is 83 years old, and he came to school here with his 12 brothers and sisters… he's going to be traveling over for the day.”
“Mabel Adams is another lady, who is very much up with it when it comes to technology - she's on our Facebook site all the time posting photos - she will be our oldest ex-student, and she'll be here on the day as well.”
Larnook Public School is one of many small schools throughout our region, and whilst they may be small on student numbers, they remain an important part of the community.
“It's always been the heart of the community… the school is really all that remains of the of what used to be here.”

“The kids have been looking at the history of the school recently, and it's been amazing for them to see that it's always been this small school that was very important to its community.”
