Those that drive the long trip to Sydney regularly or even once a year to visit family and friends will be pleased to know the Coffs Harbour Bypass will begin in earnest this week with large-scale construction work.
Coffs Harbour is the last town to be bypassed making the Pacific Highway run 12 minutes faster by missing 12 sets of traffic lights that would frustrate most drivers as they head south from the Northern Rivers.
Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan said the works will include building new road connections between Campbell Close and the Pacific Highway and between Russ Hammond Close and Korora School Road.
"We'll start to see vegetation clearing, sites established, removing buildings, and fencing being installed. By late April, the main construction building site for the entire project will be opening."
According to the NSW Government website, bulk earthworks will begin around the middle of the year followed by the start of tunnel construction soon after.
As you can imagine, this is not going to be a quick build with the benefits not experienced until the bypass is open which is expected to be in late 2026 with the project completed in late 2027.
