For those thinking of heading north and through the Tugun Bypass Tunnel from Sunday night a word of warning from Transport NSW.
There will be changed traffic conditions on the Pacific Motorway at the Tugun Bypass Tunnel next week to carry out essential maintenance work.
To reduce the impact to motorists, work will be carried out at night. The tunnel will be closed to all traffic from 7pm to 6am AEST each night from Sunday 15 May to Thursday 19 May, reopening at 6am AEST Friday 20 May, weather permitting.
On the night of Tuesday 17 May northbound and southbound traffic will detour via the Kennedy Drive interchange, with southbound traffic re-entering the highway at the Kennedy Drive on-ramp.
On each other night traffic will be diverted at the Gold Coast Highway interchange, with north and southbound traffic diverted onto the Gold Coast Highway and Stewart Road during the closure.
The tunnel will remain fully operational during the day.
Motorists are advised to allow up to 10 minutes additional travel time for the diversions, to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
Routine maintenance of the tunnel is carried out every three months and involves a range of measures such as inspecting the various operating and safety systems.
Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience while this essential maintenance work is carried out.
