2023 Metroll Lismore Cup to feature Billy Gudgeon Band after last race

The countdown is on to the 2023 Metroll Lismore Cup. It is just under four weeks until thousands of racegoers don their best attire, fascinators and shoes and head to the Turf Club for one of Lismore's most popular social events.

This year, like 2022, is not a Lismore City Council gazetted half-day public holiday, so if you need to, put the request in now for time off.

Secretary Manager of the Lismore Turf Club Scott Jones and Functions and Operations Manager Daniel Kedraika have been working hard behind the scenes to make the 2023 Metroll Lismore Cup a little different.

Enter rising Australian country rock star Billy Gudgeon.

As soon as the horses cross the finish line in the final race at 5:10pm, Billy and his band will kick into action to entertain the expected 3000 to 5000 strong crowd.

"This is a first for the Lismore Turf Club on Cup Day," said Scott Jones, "As you wait to be picked up or wait for a taxi, you'll have some awesome entertainment. Or better still, as Billy is playing a three-hour set, settle in for an evening of music and fun. The bar and catering will remain open."

In another first for the Turf Club, there is a special $10 ticket after 4pm.

"For those that have to work, hopefully, the boss will let them go a bit early so they can come to the Turf Club and watch a couple of races, including the Metroll Lismore Cup. Then people can stay and rock out to the Billy Gudgeon Band," Daniel Kedraika added.

The Metroll Lismore Cup race is worth $75,000, but the winner also qualifies for the $3 million Big Dance race in Sydney on Melbourne Cup Day. This should ensure a strong field for the cup.

As is the case every year, there are many ways to enjoy Cup Day.

There is general admission for $25, a Members Lounge Day pass, a Trackside Table for 10, the Stone & Wood Lawn Party and a Members Lounge Luncheon.

Local legend the Cath Simes Band will keep the Stone & Wood Lawn Party crowd dancing, and, of course, there is the Shed Company Fashions on the Field event.

Check out the options and costs here.

The 2023 Metroll Lsimroe Cup is on Thursday, September 21, from 12 noon until just after 8pm.
