Lismore Workers moved into third place in the region's premier competition, Far North Coast Cricket Council's Two Day L J Hooker League, thanks to a captain's contribution from Jason Caught with bat and ball.
"It was a great win after a slow start with the bat," said Caught.
Workers had a 40-0vers a side game against Alstonville at Hill Park Oval, Wollongbar, after the first allocated day was called off due to rain. Alstonville's captain Kyle Yager won the toss and put Workers into bat.
Zac Ewing, Tom Standish, Josh Saad, Gus Legoe and Max Pitman were out with the Workers in strike at 5/58.
Cam Bryant and Hamish Clacher put on 30 runs to steady the ship, with Clacher scoring 21. But then Clacher was out and Nathan Bezrouchko went for a duck to leave Workers 7/89. Bryant fell for 32 when Damien Santin was joined by Jason Caught.
The pair changed the complexion of the match putting on 85 runs before Santin fell for 37 runs with the score 9/192. Caught was last out stumped for a fine 53 with the total 199.
Cameron Bryant stead the ship for Lismore Workers with a fine 32.
"Cameron is in his element playing a longer game than the T20s and he should only perform better in a two dayer," said Caught. "Hamish Clacher contributed again as he has all season with a 21 and Damien Santin's 37 was crucial in the 85-run 9th wicket stand."
The score gave Workers a chance and the mainly pace attack got to work with Caught to the fore. Caught used six bowlers with the spin of Legoe taking 2/34 off eight overs.
Caught took four wickets for 24 runs off 6.2 overs; Damien Santin 1/20 off five overs; Alex Battesee 1/40 off eight overs; Kyle Stones 1/15 off six overs and Cam Bryant 1/23 off four overs.
Kyle Stones once again showed he has the ability for the region's premier cricket competition with 1/15 off six overs.
"Kyle Stones once again proved he deserves his spot in L J Hooker," said Caught.
Workers victory sees them level with second-placed Cudgen who inflicted the first defeat on leaders Pottsville yesterday afternoon.
"A couple more wins will cement our finals spot," said Caught.
