Women on the Land workshops get a boost

A new workshop series allowing rural women to build skills in sustainable farm management and recovering from natural disasters just received a Federal Government funding boost.

Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan said $21,700 would be allocated for these programs to run across the North Coast community.

“These workshops will empower rural women and show the benefits of making sustainable decisions for their families, their farms and the farm businesses,” Mr Hogan said.

The workshops are run by North Coast Local Land Services in partnership with Women on the Land. The organisations have already been running a workshop series to assist local rural women with holistic decision making and resilience.

“North Coast Local Land Service in partnership with Women on the Land will be delivering this project over two years,” Mr Hogan said.

North Coast Local Land Services General Manager Louise Orr welcomed the funding and is looking forward to the workshops.

“This project aims to empower women to take ownership of not just their personal welfare but their farm and farm business welfare in the event of a natural disaster,” Mrs Orr said.

“This will help build more resilient farms and more resilient communities in the face of an increasingly variable climate.”
