There has been some talk about town as to when council will take down the recycled Christmas tree at the roundabout of Keen and Magellan Street? After all it is well after the accepted January 6 date when, according to Christian tradition, the three wise men visited baby Jesus in Bethlehem thus signifying the end of Christmas celebrations. It is also the date twelve days after Christmas.
It is thought to be bad luck if Christmas trees are left up after this date.
According to a Lismore City Council spokesperson the recycled Christmas tree will be removed on Wednesday February 3. The rest of the Christmas decorations along Keen Street were removed during the week.
There is less roadwork activity over the weekend.
RMS has completed the resurfacing of the Bruxner Highway between Rotary Drive and Nielsen Street, East Lismore over the past two Sundays so there will be no delays getting into town from Goonellabah or heading up the Bruxner. Sunday January 31 was held in case a third Sunday was needed but the RMS have said we are in the clear.
Lismore City Council road crews are put the finishing touches on the new roundabout yesterday at the corner of Keen and Orion streets that will improve safety for motorists and pedestrians.
Over the next couple of weeks, minor works such as pedestrian fencing and signage will be completed.
The community nominated this intersection as a Black Spot following a number of accidents at this location. This upgrade has been funded under NSW Government Safer Roads program.
