While it might not hit the mainland of Australia, Tropical Cyclone Uesi is being watched closely by the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) as it moves closer to the east coast of Australia.
BoM meteorologist Shuang Wane said the category three tropical cyclone is located northwest of New Caledonia and was moving slowly south.
“Tropical cyclone Uesi is expected to continue moving south in the next 24 hours and then take a more southwestwards track from late tomorrow,” she said.
“It is expected to weaken as a tropical system and is not expected to impact on the coast of New South Wales.
“It could cause hazardous surf conditions on the northern and central coasts of NSW – it just depends on how it transitions as it moves south.”
The tropical cyclone, which began as a low pressure system, has been under the watchful eye of meterologists since last week, when storms and heavy rain were impacting northern New South Wales.
