Wet weather to play a part in Hooker League

Wet weather will play a big part in Round 6 of the LJ Hooker League competition on Saturday.

Marist Brothers will host Alstonville at Oakes Oval and will look to bounce back after their first loss of the season last weekend to Tintenbar East Ballina.

The loss dropped Brothers from second to fifth on the league ladder, and they will be looking for a result if play is possible.

The top order failed to fire last Saturday, with number six, Pat Martin top scoring with 33 and newcomer Sean Walters adding 29no.

Young bowlers Tom Molloy and Blake Collings picked up early wickets before a 131-run partnership between Ross Yelseth and Pierce Bull guided Tintenbar to a 7-wicket win.

Brothers will be looking to open their Oakes Oval account with a win if the weather permits.

Goonellabah head east to Megan Crescent Oval in Lennox Head to take on the Pirates, in what may be a lopsided affair.

Goonellabah Workers Sports currently sit six points clear at the top of the league ladder, with the Pirates looking for their first win of the season and sitting in last place.

The sand-based ground in Lennox Head may allow for play on Saturday if the pitch has been prepared and covered prior to the heavy rain on Friday.

The GWS side are coming off a 7-wicket victory over Casino last Saturday, with the top order all making starts.

Jack Cooper top scored with 49, Blake Perkins (21) and Kevin Warid (24) made solid contributions before Tom Standish (33no) and Ben Cooper (34no) passed the Cavaliers total in the 24th over.

Both matches will start at 1:00pm, ground and weather conditions permitting.
