Insulate Lismore is an initiative coordinated and driven initially by Dee, who herself had to install Gyprock walls to ensure she had some warm rooms with the mercury dropping to 3 or 4 degrees during winter. It is successfully creating warmth, security and safety for many residents of Lismore who are living in shells of homes.
Originally the Gyprock for the first home was donated by Emrock, and then personal donations have continued the project, "but more donations are desperately needed to continue" says Dee.
Jeannette's ceiling and walls have had work done by the team this week
They have insulated and secured 3 homes, one of which was for a 77-year-old, who was living in their garage, another was for a family with multiple people with disabilities and another with a ten-month-old with two siblings.
Their message is "the government isn't coming to help us, so we have got to do this ourselves".

Dee told us "Yesterday we broke into two crews, so we could get more done. We have around 20 volunteers so far. We are growing but had to spend $600 in materials to complete the third home. The more volunteers and materials we get, including screws, the faster we can ensure no one is left out in the cold".
