Northern Rivers-based Viva Racing has its sights set on the prestigious Kosciuszko race this weekend, with talented galloper Derry Grove among the leading contenders.
The Kosciuszko is the world's richest race exclusively for country horses, boasting a $2 million prize pool. It is scheduled to take place at Randwick this Saturday, October 14th.
Derry Grove has stormed into contention for the Kosciuszko with three consecutive wins, with his last two victories being particularly dominant at Randwick.
Mitch Lowe of Viva Racing is excited to have a top contender in the big race.
"It's a really exciting time for the ownership group, with a large contingent of owners heading to Randwick on Saturday. The Northern Rivers region is well-represented, with owners from Casino, Lismore, Ballina and Murwillumbah. Being a Northern Rivers local myself, I've wanted to win the world's richest country race for some time and 2023 presents our best chance to date," he said.
Derry Grove is in outstanding form and will be at his peak this weekend with leading rider Nash Rawiller in the saddle.

"Nash is in exceptional form at the moment and we wouldn't want anyone else in the saddle," Lowe said.
Another advantage is that Derry Grove is trained by the highly regarded NSW trainer, Matthew Dunn, based in Murwillumbah.
Viva Racing will also have the lightly raced filly Oceans of Energy competing in the Listed Reginald Allen Stakes over 1400 meters on the same day.
"She won her first two career starts in impressive fashion, showcasing her talent. Her first two runs this campaign have been very encouraging, despite not having much luck. We expect her to be highly competitive and her chances will be further enhanced if a little rain arrives leading up to race day."
Viva Racing also has two good chances racing at Eagle Farm on Saturday in Nashira (Race 8) and Arnaqueur (Race 10).
