Four months away from the September 14 NSW Local Council Elections, The Greens have announced their ticket, making it two candidates/parties who have declared their hand after sitting councillor Big Rob confirmed he is running for mayor and councillor again in 2024. Although, The Greens have not registered its candidates as this is written.

It was not surprising not to see Vanessa Ekins's name on the ticket, as the rumour mill said she would not run for a sixth term as a Lismore City Councillor.

Ms Ekins was first elected in 2004, was voted as Deputy Mayor in 2008 and was Mayor of Lismore in 2021 until the December elections that year.

In 2024, The Greens will be led by sitting councillor Adam Guise, with Virginia Waters, Luke Robinson, Shae Salmon, Lindall Watson and Binnie O'Dwyer also on the Greens ticket.

The Greens have four new faces (Shae Salmon was on the 2021 Greens ticket).

Virginia Waters is the Nimbin Disaster Resilience Group Project Officer who worked for Lismore City Council for nearly ten years as the Events and Tourism Support Officer.

Luke Robinson lives in Whian Whian and is a musician who played at Adam Guise's 2023 State Election campaign launch in March of that year.

Lindall Watson is an Educational Consultant from Stony Chute, and Binnie O'Dwyer is a lawyer and single mother who lost her house in the 2022 big flood.

The 2021 elections registered parties included Steve Krieg's independent ticket, The Our Sustainable Future party, the Labor Party, Patrick Healy's independent ticket, the Animal Justice Party and Big Rob's independent ticket.

As the four months tick down quickly, we wait for the launch of Labor, Animal Justice Party and Steve Krieg's ticket, the unknown of the Our Sustainable Future party and what other surprise independent tickets will be formed.

The final day for registrations is Wednesday, 14 August, 2024.

The Lismore App contacted Vanessa Ekins, who could not talk for personal reasons, and Adam Guise, who did not respond to our attempts.

Check out the candidates here.
