UPDATE: man arrested after police pursuit ends in GoonellabahThe stolen Repco car from this afternoon's police pursuit

Officers from Richmond District Police have caught and arrested the man responsible for a police pursuit that came to a stop at the end of Ravenswood Drive, Goonellabah this afternoon.

Superintendent Scott Tanner told the Lismore App the male in his late 20's stole a car in Ballina at 10:15 this morning. He was seen driving dangerously along Kerr and Swift Street.

The man then abandoned the car before stealing a Repco car where a number of police vehicles became involved in a pursuit.

During the pursuit the man collided with a number of cars and intentionally drove at police with Supt Tanner saying the manner in which the man was driving was highly dangerous and it was lucky that no one was injured or seriously hurt.

The car chase ended when the man crashed into a colourbond fence in Ravenswood Drive before fleeing the scene.

He then went to Caringal Court where he tried to steal another car unsuccessfully before moving on and making a second attempt when police apprehended him.

He was taken to Lismore Police station where he will appear in Lismore Court tomorrow.

The West Ballina man has an extensive record and is well known to police.
