Ugly Ballina Road CBD site to get 9 commercial units and Rous Road a Childcare CentreThe site on Ballina Road is due for a huge makeover

The long and now ugly storage site on Ballina Road before the Molesworth Street roundabout is about to get a $495,000 makeover after a development application (DA) was approved to turn it into commercial units.

The Lismore City Council (LCC) letter to the applicant said, "To undertake the erection of a light industrial building and associated driveway, parking spaces, civil infrastructure works, tree removal and landscaping."

The Lismore App understands there will be 9 two-storey units that will be built with the second story high enough for storage during a flood.

The DA was removed from the LCC website once it was approved.

The building was last used by Staunch Outdoor Adventure Centre selling camping gear which closed during COVID due to the lack of product availability. It was then used to store a few classic cars before the big flood caused major damage last year.

We now wait to see when construction will begin.

While that DA was approved by LCC, another DA is yet to be determined for a new childcare centre on Rous Road, Goonellabah.

Local would have noticed the two houses at 62 and 64 were wrapped when asbestos was removed from the property.

LCC DA Tracker shows the demolition of the two houses has been approved along with ancillary structures and the removal of vegetation.

If approved, the two old houses will make way for a $1.7 million 98-place childcare centre.

The DA says that council recommends that the proposed building be of a high-quality contemporary design that incorporates good levels of articulation, visual interest and uses a range of building materials and colours, particularly when viewed from the public domain (street).

The design of the proposed building is of a modern cottage style in keeping with the locality and current design trends. The building uses a combination of modern Linea weatherboards with timber detailing, colorbond roof, some stone clad features around the entry. Landscaping will soften and compliment the design.

There is a good amount of articulation in the design, also complimented by the roof incorporating gables and trims. Colours will be predominantly whites and light greys, with some timber and stone features.
