Two out of three for Lismore Storm

The Lismore Storm basketball teams contesting the Sunshine Conference have come away from the weekend with two out of three victories at home.

The first win came from the Division 2 Men, who took on the Casino Kings in hot and steamy conditions at the Albert Park stadium.

The match tipped off at 2:00pm and the Kings took an early lead into the quarter time break 15-11.

The second stanza saw the Storm share the scoring around with a handy 23 point quarter to narrowly lead at the main break 34-32.

Isaac McWhirter and Lachlan Keyte piled on the points in the third quarter to see the Storm push their lead out to 10 going into the final quarter.

The Kings managed to close the gap in the last quarter but the Storm held strong and ran out 73-64 victors.

McWhirter top-scored with 31, with Keyte adding 16.

The Storm Women's side was not so lucky in their match against a strong Ballina Breakers side.

Makayla Greensill knocked down two 3-pointers in the first quarter, which saw the Storm take an early 11-7 lead into the first break.

The Breakers found their rhythm in the second and clawed their way back to lead narrowly 26-24 at halftime.

Ballina pushed out to a 6-point lead at the last break and eventually took the win 53-44.

Greensill top-scored for the Storm with 12 points, and Grace Simpson and Poppy Latta both added 10 points.

The Division 1 Men's side then finished off a big day of basketball with a solid 89-72 point win over the Breakers.

Nothing separated the teams at quarter time, before the Storm piled on 28 points in the second quarter to lead 42-33 at halftime and then added another 30 points in the third stanza to put the game beyond doubt at the final break.

The Storm led 72-44 with a quarter to go, before closing out the win to cement second place on the ladder.

Zac Knight had his eye in from beyond the arc, hitting six 3's on his way to 28 points, with Toby Barlow adding 24 and Kane Daley and Jade Chandler joining in with 10.

The teams have a week off before home games on Saturday 8 November.
