The open mic community gathering on Bailie Street, North Lismore, or unauthorised protest, according to police, got out of hand earlier today as another house was due to be demolished.

Two people were arrested by officers from the Richmond Police District in the first incident of civil disobedience.

The Lismore App understands the two people tried to jump a fence to stop the demolition.

A NSW Police Media Statement said:

About 9am today, (Tuesday, 8 April 2025), police were called to Baillie Street, North Lismore, following reports of an unauthorised protest.

On arrival, officers attached to Richmond Police District found approximately 30 people gathered at the location.

Two women, aged 28 and 60 were arrested, and taken to Lismore Police Station where inquiries are ongoing.

The group has now dispersed, and police remain in the area.

Today was the second Resilient Homes Program (RHP) House Buyback to be demolished in Baillie Street, North Lismore. Two more are scheduled for demolition.

As reported on the Lismore App earlier this morning, there are 428 more homes to relocate or demolish through the RHP (Baillie Street demolition highlights unity to division in three years).

Is this the beginning of an escalation of events?
