Last night's car chase through Goonellabah ended with the driver crashing his vehicle at Dalwood.

About 9.35pm (Friday 30 September 2022), officers attached to Richmond Police District were patrolling the Goonellabah area when they saw a Holden Commodore drive off at speed.

Police found the car at the intersection of D.A. Olley Drive and Oliver Street; when the driver did not stop as directed, a pursuit began.

The pursuit continued through Goonellabah, east along Dalwood Road, with the vehicle reaching speeds of approximately 110km/h in a sign-posted 80km/h zone.

Police lost sight of the vehicle and the pursuit was terminated.

A short time later, police were told a vehicle matching the description had crashed into a paddock on Wardell Road, Dalwood.

Upon arrival, police saw a man lying beside the vehicle.

A 32-year-old man was treated at the scene before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital, where he remains undergoing treatment.

Officers found a machete and cannabis in the vehicle; both will undergo further forensic examination.

Inquiries are continuing.
