Traffic diversions come to Pacific Motorway near St Helena Tunnel

Motorists are advised of changed overnight traffic conditions from next week on the Pacific Motorway near Byron Bay to carry out essential maintenance work on the St Helena Tunnel.

Routine maintenance of the St Helena Tunnel is carried out every three months and involves inspecting the various operating and safety systems.

To reduce impacts to motorists, the northbound and southbound lanes of the tunnel will be closed overnight from 7pm to 5am on Monday 22, Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 November, weather permitting.

Traffic will be diverted onto the Hinterland Way between the Byron Road interchange at Bangalow and the Ewingsdale Road interchange at Ewingsdale.

Motorists are advised to allow up to 10 minutes additional travel time, drive to the conditions, and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.

There will also be changed traffic conditions on the Pacific Highway and local roads from tomorrow (Monday 22) to Sunday 28 November for the Woolgoolga to Ballina upgrade, weather permitting.

There will be no roadwork on the Pacific Highway between Kew and the Queensland border from 6am Friday 26 November to 6am Monday 29 November due to the potential for NSW Government COVID travel restrictions being eased. Emergency maintenance and safety repair work will be carried out as required.

From Monday, there will be five days of work on the northbound Pacific Highway carriageway just north of Devils Pulpit to carry out drainage and pavement maintenance. Motorists can expect lane closures and mobile traffic control from 6:30am to 5:30pm.

Also from Monday, there will be five days of work on the Pacific Highway between Iluka Road and Glenugie to carry out landscape maintenance. Motorists can expect lane closures and mobile traffic control at times between 7am and 5pm.

From Tuesday, there will be one day of work on the Pacific Highway at the Yamba interchange to carry out survey monitoring. Motorists can expect lane closures, traffic control and short stoppages at times between 6am and 6pm.

Additional changes to local roads

From Monday, there will be two days of work on Wardell Road to carry out fencing maintenance. Motorists can expect shoulder and lane closures and traffic control at times between 7am and 6pm.

Also from Monday, there will be reduced speed limits at Woodburn-Evans Head for seven days and seven nights as part of private property access work. Motorists can expect traffic control and short stoppages at times between 6am and 6pm.

Motorists can expect reduced speed limits at Tuckombil and Trustums Hill roads, north of the Woodburn interchange for seven days and seven nights as part of asphalt sealing work. There will also be reduced speed limits at the Woodburn interchange for five days from Monday, to carry out landscape maintenance from 7am to 4pm.

Further south from Monday, there will be up to three days of work on Rodder and Marozin roads, New Italy to carry out finishing work. Motorists can expect shoulder and lane closures, traffic control and short stoppages at times between 6am and 6pm.

Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
