It was a tough day out for the Lismore Rugby club on Saturday when they took on FNC Rugby Union heavyweights, Wollongbar Alstonville.

The Lismore side entered the match as underdogs, but were able to match the strong Pioneers side in the early exchanges after conceding two early tries.

The Greens were able to cross for a coverted try in the first half to captain Kyle Maluta, and trailed 36-7 at the break.

Unfortunately the home side ran riot in the second half, piling on 54 points in the 14 tries to 2 victory.

Second rower Cohen Cartwright crossed in the second half, with Braeden Williams converting his second try for Lismore.

Reserve Grade went down 55-7 but in the shining light for the club, the Colts team defeated the Pioneers 24-19 in a tight opening game.

The Colts now lead the U/18's competition and will look to extend their lead next week when they take on Mullumbimby.

In other grades, Lismore will host Casino at Lismore Rugby Park next Saturday.

The SCU Gold Rats travelled to Kyogle to ensure that their match could be played after Maurie Ryan Oval was deamed to be unplayable, but went down to the Cockies 45-22.
