The toss of the coin could play an important part in the local LJ Hooker League matches at Oakes and Mortimer Ovals this weekend.

With storms and heavy rain throughout the week, pitch preparation and the covering of the wickets has been limited, with the potential for plenty of fire in both pitches.

Goonellabah Workers Sports will host Tweed Banora Colts at Oakes Oval, and Marist Brothers will host Casino in a rare local double for cricket fans.

It is rare in the competition for both Lismore sides to be playing at home in the same Round, with both sides hoping to get plenty of play in before the expected return of afternoon storms.

Goonellabah are coming off a nail-biting two-wicket win over powerhouse club Cudgen, extending their lead at the top of the LJ Hooker League table.

It doesn't get any easier for GWS as they clash with the second-placed Tweed Banora on Saturday.

Goonellabah has been forced to make several changes, with Jack Cooper representing North Coast at the NSW Country Championships and in-form batsman Tom Standish unavailable.

Tully Churton and Joe Price have been named to take the star duo's place for the Tweed Banora clash.

Marist Brothers will take on the Casino Cavaliers at Mortimer Oval in a crucial clash for the brethren.

Brothers dropped to fourth on the table after a shock loss to Pottsville in Round 7 and they will not want to take the last-placed Cavaliers lightly after a number of recent upsets.

Pottsville, Lennox Head and the Cavaliers have all caused major upsets in the past three weeks and Marist Brothers will be looking to return to winning form.

Cooper Williams returns from Bradman Cup duties and bowlers Tom Molloy and Jeremy Perkins will be welcomed back into the Brothers side.

The home side has named a mix of youth and experience, with 5 players all under 18 years of age to join veterans Brendan Mitchell, Pat Martin and Luke Hamshaw.

Both matches are set to start at 1:00pm.
