Today's rain forces NSW Country Championships to Grafton

Today's rainfall, while good for farmers and gardens, has not been good for Scott Jones and Daniel Kedraika at the Lismore Turf Club.

Tomorrow's NSW Country Championship race has been moved to Grafton.

Daniel told the Lismore App it was touch and go but a decision needed to be made so an important race like the Championship could definitely go ahead.

"If the weather cleared and the sun came out this afternoon, the track would have dried in time for tomorrow but it wasn't to be," Daniel said.

"We're devastated but we hope we will get another chance to host such a prestigious event next year."

Lismore received around 27mm at the Turf Club while Grafton received only 2mm today.

"It was the best decision for the owners and trainers for the Country Championships and for Racing NSW."

The money promised to sporting clubs for online ticket sales will be honoured.

The Lismore Turf Club will hold a race meeting on Saturday, March 23 on Golden Slipper day.
