Lismore has escaped relatively unscathed after the recent severe thunderstorm activity across NSW since the SES issued a warning for the entire state on Friday.
When many parts of NSW were inundated with heavy rainfall, like Eurobodalla (south of Bateman's Bay on the south coast) where 190mm fell in 24 hours or Orange in the south-west and Maitland in the Hunter Valley where 4-5 centimetre hail pummelled their respective cities.
Lismore saw only 9mm fall at Lismore Airport over the last four days, Nimbin 44mm, Casino 23.6mm and Mullumbimby 51.6mm.
The Bureau of Meteorology was spot on when they said the storm cells would be isolated and unpredictable. It really did depend on luck or little luck.
Last night's storm from the northwest was a wild affair for twenty minutes or so before the sky cleared providing some incredible photo opportunities.
When the call was put out to Lismore App readers for their photos, the results came in quickly and proved how beautiful the Northern Rivers is even in torrid times. So, thank you to Emma Jukes, Deborah Banks, Michael Brown, Natasha Tiffany, Sue Guild, Phil Foley, Diana Devai, Penny Macrokanis, Helene Hainaut, Sally Ryall, Digga Berg, Debbie, Regeling, Alyce Benson, Michelle Garrett, Rhiannon Matthews, Cass Fawcett, Kate, St James, Amanda Shoebridge, Tracey Davis, Sally Watts, Neil Butler and Bee JT.
If I have missed anyone, my apologies but thank you.
The storm activity is forecast to lessen over the next few days before ramping up again in the lead-up to 2024. The chance of rain is high but the range is wide once again with Saturday 0-20mm and Sunday (NYE) 0-10mm.
It is easy to stay up to date with the latest weather situation using the Lismore App through the Weather & Travel button. You will also be able to use The Bureau's Radar button with the push of a button Weather Radar.
