Three players shine in North Coast side in NSW CHS State Championships The Football Far North Coast players who were part of the North Coast squad in the NSW Combined High Schools Football 2019 Boys State Championships.

Three players from the North Coast side shone at the NSW Combined High Schools Football 2019 Boys State Championships in Berkeley, Wollongong.

Coach John Eakin said James Fleming and Harry Hampson (both Alstonville High School) and Harrison O’Garey (Coffs Harbour High School) were the shining lights for his side.

"They were of interest to the state selectors but no one made it into the CHS State side this year," he said.

North Coast were left to reflect on a scoreless draw against Western on the crucial first day where the side missed numerous chance to score. One goal would have seen North Coast play in the quarter finals.

"On Day One we finished bottom of our pool (on for and against) after the draw (to Western) and a loss (7-0 to Sydney West)," Eakin told the Lismore App.

"That relegated us into the bottom four play off on days two and three. On Day two we had two wins against North West (3-0) and West Darling (3-0). On Day three we had another win over Riverina (1-0) which placed us ninth out of 12, which is same place we have held for the past three years."

The Football Far North Coast representatives in the North Coast squad were, from left to right in the picture, Caleb Wilmoth (Richmond Rovers), James Fleming (Alstonville), Luca Jones (Dunoon United), Harry Hampson (Alstonville), Ezra Frost (Casino RSM Cobras), Conor Bensley (Bangalow), Benjamin Bordin (Tintenbar-East Ballina) and Jake Balfour (Alstonville).

The North Coast side is selected from the most talented players from Port Macquarie to the Queensland border, which makes it hard for the players to get together before the championships.

"A training session will certainly be the aim next year," said Eakin.

Sydney East beat Hunter 2-1 to win the NSW Combined High Schools Football 2019 Boys State Championships.
