The Wiggles bring smiles to the children of Lismore

You couldn't help but smile when you walked into GSAC this afternoon as The Wiggles were wrapping up their first of three concerts today.

The songs that have stood the test of time had children up and dancing and doing the actions without any inhibitions.

Red Wiggle Simon Pryce told the Lismore App, that is the case from start to finish.

"The first show was good. You know, it's always so nice when you get out there and you see all the families, the smiling faces and everyone gets involved and dances and sings along. Anthony always says this is not a job and he is so right. We are very fortunate to do what we do."

"Things like Rockabye Your Bear, a classic, it marries lyric with action. I've got a little boy myself, 22 months, and you start to really understand the development of a child and when it says 'everybody clap, now he starts clapping his hands and doing the actions. That's one of the classic Wiggles songs I think."

Emma took Ezra and Charlotte to their first-ever concert with Hot Potato the favourite song, "It was very good, they really enjoyed it."

For Henry and Emma, their favourite song was Big Strong John with mum Louisa saying, It was excellent, they really enjoyed it."

Tanisha and Leanna echoed those thoughts after the show, "It was really good. It was good to see all the kids having fun and meet all their friends here as well."

Red Wiggle Simon has an aunty and uncle that lived in Lismore for about 30 years so has some affiliation here. "We have some time off tomorrow so we'll hopefully have a look around."

"We were coming earlier in the year but then the floods hit and we had to cancel. It's been one of our objectives to get back here and find a little window of time we can get back here and see everyone. There's a lot of support when a natural disaster happens and then everyone backs off and goes back to normal life while everyone else is still trying to recover and rebuild."

"So, we wanted to make sure we got back so everyone knew we were thinking of you. We're very happy to be here."

Captain Philip Sutcliffe from The Salvos, the man who played an integral role in making the concerts a reality was a happy man.

"The first show is fantastic. It's great to see the happy smiling faces of all the kids and the parents here in the room and we're just incredibly blessed and blown away that The Wiggles have bought their entire crew here to Lismore."

"All eight of The Wiggles, although we are missing Anthony he had to rush back to Sydney for some emergency dental work but we've got Wags and Dorothy and Captain Feather Sword and Henry the Octopus, and it's just so good to see the excitement on the children's faces."

Capt Sutcliffe said this was the first time that council and GSAC have put on a major event like this.

"This has been a great experiment. So, this is a great opportunity for the council moving forward to be able to bring some larger entertainment. They are so positive, they are so pumped about this opportunity that we've been able to partner with them. Moving forward, this is really great for our community and our town. We know what's possible here now. And just to be able to bring joy to these families lives in the lead-up to Christmas is what we are here for every single day."

(Mayor Steve Krieg presented Yellow Wiggle Evie Ferris with a council shirt which she donned in the green room between shows)

The second concert is in action now while number three kicks off at 5pm.

We need to thank Captain Philip Sutcliffe from The Salvo's, Lismore City Council and of course, The Wiggles for making this event possible and giving the children and parents of Lismore and the Northern Rivers something to smile about nearing the end of a tough year.
