Lismore is about to get a taste of the glitz and glamour, with a new annual event to be held on Saturday 29th July at the Hotel Metropole.

The Met Gala Lismore is an event inspired by the famous Met Gala in the United States. The US event is an annual fundraiser for celebrities, who dress in elaborate, theme-based costumes.

Lismore’s version of the event also promises to be a night of glamour, fashion, and entertainment, with guests invited to dress to impress in their most extravagant outfits.

Tanya Jones is a member of the organising committee and said the event will give the town a chance to party, while raising money for a good cause.

“Nick is the owner of the Hotel Metropole… and post-flood, Nick felt that our town needed to have a real party, because everyone was feeling a little bit flat and depleted,” she said.

“So, we thought let's have a great party, let's all dress up, let's have some fun, and in the process make some money for somebody who was really worthy.”

This year the event will raise money for local charity Our Kids, with the event set to raise money for a different charity each year.

“We'll have an online silent auction, as well as a short auction on the night, because we want it to be about having fun, and we want that to be the focus.”

Hotel Metropole will be closed to the public for the night, as the event takes over the whole space – with all the luxuries of a Hollywood-style event.

“It's an opportunity to dress up in fabulous fashions and walk the red carpet… the paparazzi will be there taking your photos as you arrive, you'll have a lovely champagne on arrival and some canapés.”

“We will start the night with Cheeky Cabaret from Brunswick Picture House, they'll do a mini show for us for about 45 minutes, then we're going to have Mandy Nolan entertaining us, she's hysterically funny.”

“We've got an amazing 6-piece band from Brisbane called Radio Club Band, who are coming down and will dance the night away.”

“We will have substantial food drops throughout the evening and grazing platters through the night, so everyone we sufficiently fed too.”

“We're going to have a whiskey bar at the back, and we're going to have a lovely prep area for ladies who want to actually freshen up again throughout the night.”

The dress code is formal, and the theme for this year's event is feathers and bling, with the theme changing each year.

“We're very, very excited… it'll be a fun, funky, entertaining, glamorous event that we haven't seen before.”

“It's not going to be a formal sit down three-course meal event, it's going to be much more fun, much more dancing, much more activity, much more entertainment, so it'll be a great event.”
