The Marist Brothers Rams are out to make history

The Marist Brothers Rams are out to break a 22-year drought when they host the 2025 NRRRL Grand Final on Sunday.

The Rams last played in a Grand Final back in 2004 when they went down to Mullumbimby 14-12, the last year of Group 1, before the NRRRL was formed.

The last First Grade premiership for the club was the year prior, in 2003, defeating the South Grafton Rebels 42-41.

Marist Brothers were the dominant side of Group 1, making 12 of the 13 Grand Finals held between 1992 and 2004, winning eight, including five in a row between 1997 and 2001.

Remarkably, the losing margins in the four grand finals that the club lost were just 4 points, 1 point, 2 points, and 2 points.

Now in 2025, the First Grade side has the opportunity to create history and add their first NRRRL Premiership to the trophy cabinet.

The Rams will take on the Murwillumbah Mustangs on Sunday at Crozier Field, and they will do so with a big "Old Boys" crew urging them on to add to the deep tradition of the club.

The two sides have met just once this season, in Round 12, with Brothers taking the match 34-28 in a nailbiter.

Coach Darryl Butcher has been able to name an unchanged lineup from the team that defeated the Jets last weekend, getting the job done in style.

The Marist Brothers First Grade Team List will be:

  1. Noah King
  2. Andrew Ferguson-Fitzgerald
  3. Mitchell Krause
  4. Kye Cooper
  5. Lachlan Offley
  6. Jye Davis
  7. Shallin Fuller
  8. Lochlen Perren
  9. Paul O'Neill
  10. James Durheim
  11. Will Wooley
  12. Henry Lee
  13. Jack Elmore
  14. Nathan Stewart
  15. Sam McRae
  16. Lennon Bartlett
  17. Latrell Hampton
  18. Ethan Mumford

The Rams will look to the strong running forward pack to set the platform early, before allowing the slick backline enough space to work their magic.

Durheim and Lee, names synonymous with Marist Brothers were excellent last week, and along with Perren, Wooley and Elmore will take it to the solid Mustangs forward pack.

Try scoring machine Mitchell Krause will be looking to add to his double in the Elimination Final and halfback and NRRRL Player of the Year Shallin Fuller will look to steer the side around the park, putting plenty of doubt in the mUstangs defence.

A huge crowd is expected, taking their seats early, with the Ramettes Ladies League Tag side kicking off their Grand Final at 9:00am.

The Ramettes will take on the Tweed Seagulls in what will be a close decider, with just two points separating the two sides in Round 5, with the Seagulls taking the win 20-18.

Hayley McAnelly will again look to manage the side around the park, with young fullback Riley Alvos coming off a strong performance last weekend, as does Eva and Mia McRae.

The side has a wealth of Grand Final experience in recent years and this will go a long way in helping the Ramettes raise another LLT Trophy.

Northern United will contest the Women's Tackle Grand Final at 11:50am, when they play the Bilambil Jets. The Jets have been impressive all year, but a big home crowd will give the Dirawongs a huge boost on Sunday.
