The Lismore Cup is set to jump

The 2022 edition of the M & T Tyres Lismore Cup has added bonuses.

Several months ago, Racing NSW added the Lismore Cup to the list of qualifying races for The Big Dance, a race worth $2m to be run on Melbourne Cup Day at Randwick Racecourse in Sydney.

The race will be run over 1600m and the final field will be drawn from the winners and runners-up of 25 Country Cups across NSW.

This opportunity has attracted a strong Cup field with trainers including Matt Dunn, Kris Lees, Chris Munce and Jack Bruce all having runners in this years race.

The early favourite for the Cup is the Matt Dunn trained Stuck With You, who comes off a last start second at Doomben.

The local interest will come from Lismore trainer Daniel Bowen who has 8-year-old gelding Holbrook entered and will be ridden by local jockey Noriyuki Masuda.

The day will commence with the time-honoured Rousillon Handicap at 12:50pm with the other highlight race being Race 6, the Untamed Sprint over 1210m.

After just 9mm of rain at the track overnight, the track is ready for racing on a Soft 5 and will give punters a true shot at backing a winner.

The day will be run under overcast skies but this will not deter the thousands of patrons flocking to the track to finally enjoy an opportunity to dress up and celebrate after a tough 2022.

Whether it is studying the form, names that jump out at you, the jockeys colours or a favourite number, there is a winner in every race, the difficult part is picking which one.
