Driving to Bruce and Bev Supple's house in Grevillia Grove, Goonellabah for a look at their ultra-impressive Christmas light display is a tradition for a lot of Lismore residents, even those that live outside the area come to marvel at what they have created.
Unfortunately, it is Bruce and Bev's last Christmas, well to this level anyway, as they look to scale right back in 2023 so don't miss out this year.

Although, Bruce did use the word 'probably' so we can all live in Christmas hope.
"I think so," Bruce told the Lismore App, "Yeah, I think it'd be the last year, probably, to the extent that we go to all this trouble. We might keep a bit of it and the grandkids will get the rest of it."
"We only did it this year because of the floods. We wanted to give people some enjoyment after the year that we've had."
While it is an absolute shame for the people of Lismore, it is totally understandable when you learn that Bruce and Bev start the build in early November. It takes a month to create the ending masterpiece starting on the roof, the driveway and the garden before adding the lawn elements.
The lawn is last because Bruce has to take everything off the lawn to mow it five times a season.
As Bruce has aged, he now gets help from neighbours in the street, "Young fellas or younger fellas, from here in the street and knock it up in one afternoon. One bloke knows what he's doing so it all came together quickly.
What's new in 2022"
The reindeer in the photo near Bruce are this year's new purchase but there is quite a bit of replacement stock that needs purchasing too.
"Some of it was only 12 months old and it falls apart. Chinese products," Bruce laughs.
Bruce points to a set of lights in the garden, "They were only 12 months old last year, $159. We got them out and they all fell apart so it was off to Bunnings to get another light."
The bill this year with only the one new 3-set of reindeer was about $1000, "Easy," Bruce laughs again, "These things here (points to the reindeer) were $269. The prices have really gone up. That Merry Christmas sign, the M has gone out in a year, was $140 a year ago and I got a price the other day and their $240, a $100 increase. So, it is an expensive hobby."
"But the old stuff, yeah, it just keeps going."
Like people say they don't make it like they used to.
Bruce and Bev have been putting up Christmas lights for four decades.
"We started out with milk cartons and candles back in those days with a few party lights before this stuff happened."
What you see is not all bought in the store as is, Bruce and Bev make a lot of it themselves.
"That's what takes the time," Bruce said, "If I had a shed big enough, you wouldn't have to pull it all down and pack it away. We have to tie it all back with thousands of little ties. Thank god for the bloke who invented them," Bruces laughs.
"But it looks magic this time, more magic this year."
As you can tell by the photos, Bruce is spot on, it certainly is a magical place to spend five or ten minutes soaking in the Christmas spirit and marvelling at the blood, sweat, tears and love that Bruce and Bev have created.
Grevillia Grove, Goonellabah is just one of the many Christmas Light displays on the Lismore App Christmas button. Check them out and if you have a display or know of a worthwhile display for families to drive to, email simon@lismoreapp.com.au.
On behalf of the Lismore community Bruce and Bev, thank you for 40 years of lighting up our lives that not many people do. We are going to miss you.
"A bloke said only yesterday as he was on his walk, "I'll be around to see them. I told him to make it back because this is the last year and he said, you want to make me cry."
"Another bloke up the street said somebody will have to take it on but that's up to the individual."
For that answer, we'll need to wait 12 months.
