The first seasonal thunderstorms on their way

Yesterdays rain is the lead in to the first real seasonal thunderstorms for spring which they will be hitting the Northern Rivers in the next few days thanks to ideal summery conditions.

The broad low pressure system that has moved through South Australia last week will continue to shift into the north eastern parts of NSW.

Combine this with high humidity and high air moisture content and we have the typical summer thunderstorm pattern that will bring some decent rain.

Depending on how lucky or unlucky you are, the range for the rainfall from these coming thunderstorms is more than we have seen through the more stable winter predictions. Today we should get 6 to 15mm, the same range for Monday, Tuesday is 5mm to 15mm while Wednesday is 0 to 10mm.

Jake Phillips from the Bureau of Meteorology says the reason for the range is that summer systems are a bit 'hit and miss'.

"One town can feel the effects of the thunderstorm while not far away, another town will get nothing," Jake said.

So, depending on where you live will determine how much rainfall and thunder activity you get in the coming days.

It is a good time to clear the gutters and make sure you are prepared for the storm season which as we know will be stronger this year thanks to the La NiƱa effect.

If you do need help, the SES number is 132 500.
