The Easter Long Weekend Wrap

While we feel cheated out of another Easter holiday think back to 2020 when we were in lockdown and the only camping had to be done in the backyard plus there were no home visits by family and friends.

Yes, we have restrictions in place but nothing that should stop us from celebrating this time of the year and the start of school holidays.

A further reminder as to what our restrictions are until the end of Monday, April 5, 2021:

  • masks must be worn on public transport, in retail stores, and in all public indoor settings (Staff and members of the public. Don't be offended if you are refused entry for no mask)
  • the one person per 4 square metre rule applies at all public indoor settings including hospitality venues
  • the number of household visitors is capped at 30, including at holiday rental properties.

The restrictions have caused some casualties already with the Byron Bay Bluesfest cancelled yesterday for health concerns, the Lismore Car Boot Markets have been cancelled for this Easter Sunday and the Lismore Speedway set down for a double-header on Saturday and Sunday night is cancelled also.

So, what's left? Not a great deal I'm afraid.

The Lismore Farmers Markets will be running Saturday morning as usual. However, they have put some rules in place:

  • Masks encouraged (stallholders will be wearing them).
  • Shop'n'go. Sorry, no tables this week. All food is take away (not to be eaten at the market).
  • Give your fellow shoppers 1.5 m space.
  • Please don't touch produce you are not taking home.

To get your fresh farm-grown fruit and veg it is get in, buy it and go between 8am and 11:30am.

The Blue Knob Community Markets also has a green light for Saturday morning at 8:30 (until 12 midday).

Greg the garden man will hold his "Your Winter Garden and Seedling" talk from 10am with a gold coin donation. If you are not sure what to grow and how to grow it for winter then this is worth the visit.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS ENDS THIS SUNDAY

A reminder that before you go to bed Saturday or if you are still up at 3am Sunday morning, turn your clocks back 1 hour as it is the end of daylight savings for another year.

The weekend weather looks pretty good for Good Friday, Saturday and Sunday with cool tops of 23-25 degrees and just a little rain forecast. Easter Monday will see the heaviest falls with 8 to 25mm expected which will continue into the rest of the week. Stay up to date with the weather forecast Weather.

For churchgoers, the Lismore App will have a rundown of the Easter period of worship later today in News.

With 99% of shops closed tomorrow Good Friday you can still get groceries from NightOwl in Woodlark Street and fish & chips options will be open all over town.

Petrol prices usually increase at this time of the year so here are the cheapest fuels around town:

  • E10 - 135.9 is the lowest you will pay at the United on Ballina Road as usual for E10.
  • Unleaded 91 - United on Ballina Road near the Workers Club are best with 137.9 but you will find a few 138.9 prices nearby.
  • U98 - 146.9 is the price you will find at the Independent on Tarania and Tweed Streets, North Lismore. You will see plenty of prices around 161 or 162.
  • Diesel - 130.9 is the cheapest at the Shell on Wilson Street, South Lismore with the rest about 135/136.

Have a safe and Happy Easter Lismore & Surrounds!
